Roads Closed Around Naval Observatory For Secret Service Investigation

Some roads surrounding the Naval Observatory were temporarily closed on Monday morning to allow Secret Service agents investigate a reported gunshot that was fired in the area.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, members of the Secret Service Uniformed Division responded to a reported single gunshot near the intersection of 34th and Massachusetts Avenue NW, feet from the facility.

US Secret Service Uniform Division Lt. Paul Mayfair said that “no one was reported to be injured and there is currently no indication that this incident was directed towards any protectees or the Naval Observatory.”

As a precaution, roads around the intersection remained closed as of 11 a.m. on Monday morning due to the ongoing investigation.
